Hi folks,

I am sending this message out of desperation. :)

I am trying to find a special toggle switch, SPST, but with a
electromagnetic latch.

I want it to spring to 'off' normally, and when it is turned on, a
magnetic to hold it in place.

I could then de-energise the magnet to get it to flick back off again.

It is identical to the operation of the switch on an automatic kettle.

Does anyone know if this type of thing is available off the shelf?

The magnet can be any voltage, the switch is only switching 5 volts,
negligible current.

I have done some Google searches but have failed to find anything
useful.

Use a relay. Use a momentary switch to energize the relay. Have one
set of contacts in parallel with the momentary switch.

Look for a low voltage circuit breaker with remote trip, I know NEC had 
them on there exchanges and so do Nortel, so they must be available, I 
will post a supplier and Part # later tonight :)

They are flip on, with either flip off or remote trip.

That was my thought.  If you have to use a manual (toggle) switch, then 
use it to latch a relay. You could use one of those "return-to-center" 
toggle switches.

Try a "switch" that "simulates" that operation, like they
do im my car. The switch has an LED in it. You push the
switch and the LED comes on, making it function as if the
button is still pushed. When the background logic says so,
the LED and the function goes off. Use a Tiny and a
pushbutton switch and an LED and use the Tiny to drive a
relay. That should do it.
