Setup

If I'm using the VF-1 in a guitar setup and I want to use the preamp
on my combo amp, what is the best way to set it up. I really just
want to use it as an FX processor not the amp modelling. Should I put
the VF-1 between my guitar and amp or should I use it in the effects
loop? Thanks

I would try it in the effects loop. Be sure and set the level accordingly.
Does the effects send/return on the guitar amp read -20dB, or +4dB? Be sure
the VF1 is at the same setting.

Should I use the input or HiZ input?

Not sure what you mean. Use the guitar amp's input for your guitar and the input and output on the back for the send/return. Take a look on page 15 of the VF-1 manual. Hook the guitar amp up like the mixer in the picture to the right. The mic is of course the guitar. If the guitar amp doesn't have an effect send/return, than you can't do this.
I hope this answers your question.
Joris.

Use the LoZ input on the rear panel.

Tim, Thanks for your help. I'm getting a nice sound out of the unit
but the input level and output level are not that high. When I punch
the effects loop in and out with a delay patch on you can hear its
working perfectly. I have the input level at about 12:00. Should I
try to get these levels higher? The effects loop on my amp is -10db
return and -10db send. I have the switch on the back of the VF-1 to -
20db. Thanks for your help. Rob

If you need higher levels, play your loudest "clean" guitar sound with the
effects loop engaged. Turn the level up until it's where you want it and
listen for distortion. If there's not any, you should be good to go. There's
no law that says the VF-1 level has to be set at 12:00 ;-) Just tweak it
until it sounds good to you.
