I've got a Doepfer midi controller plugged into my VF-1 and I map midi channels to effects parameters, the only drag is the 4 modulator limit. Does anyone know any tricks to get around this? BTW, the Doepfer midi controller works really well with the VF-1, it's really handy to map delay feedback, tempo, filters. http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm (check out 'pocket control') -Steve

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about, I've looked at the site and saw the Doepfer unit, didn't know it till yesterday. Is the 4 modulator limit caused by the Doepfer, I guess not, but that's just a quess. Has it somerthing to do with the VF-1's assignable controls, there are only 4 as you probably know. Correct me if i'm wrong: I think the Doepfer gives you real time control over the selected parameters and you sequence the changes you make using Cakewalk. That's a nice feature, but now the limitation. Honestly, I don't really know all the midipossibilyties, my midi knowledge gives me a few pointers but they are "long shots". First in mind comes sysex, but I would not know if its possible to record/send sysex data wich changes the contents of the assignable controls. And anyway there stil would only be 4. But maybe here is a possibilytie (excuse my bad spelling, its early), if you can sequense sysex messages which changes the settings of the assignable controls you have a lot more flexibility. Also I'm thinking using CC commands, Cakewalk can do this but I quess you have to dig in some kinda VF-1 midiimplementation booklet. I'm not talking about the assignable controls (but maybe here is something possible also), I'm thinking like this: Maybe most/some off the VF-1 effects and their individual parameters are fixed to certain CC's. I'll try to explain/example: sending CC 80 (fixed bankselect number) and a programnumber, lets say 12, makes that cubase/cakewalk selects the right bank and patch, . Now lets assume that the VF-1 reverb has fixed CC's for it's individual parameters (I really don't know if has, check it out.........). So for instance the early reflction has CC 77, after this CC you have to register/send a value to make it work. Like I set before this is a little beyond my real midi knowledge but if I'm not mistaken and remember correctly some mididiscussions there should/could be some possibilities here. just my two cents, let the real midi-experts start talking now.........
