RE: [CZsynth] VZ-8M

2001-06-01 by Furman, Jon W.

Thanks for filling in some of the details Jeremy, I have both an 8 and a10
and what you've said is all correct and dead on target. I personally think
that the VZ-8m's handling of stereo is a vast improvement over what Casio
had been doing before (CZ-1, VZ-1 etc.). I've never linked up multiple 8ms
but I would imagine that if that works pretty well then the 2 or more 8ms
linked pretty much destroys a single VZ10/1. Maybe someday I'll pick up a
second 8m and check it out. Also I've never programmed a VZ with the screen,
I do all my editing via PC, the patches get pretty complicated so that even
with the VZ1/10's better display I'm not sure how much it really helps.

Your questions were already answered by Jon Furman, but here are
some other
facts I picked up about the VZ-8M over on the EZ-VZ site, in case
they are
	of interest:

	* better stereo effects than the VZ-1 and VZ-10M -- apparently
stereo
panning is unique to this unit
	* less polyphony per box than the VZ-10M, but unlike the VZ-10M,
you can
chain a bunch of them together to get 64-voice polyphony
	* no graphic display? unlike VZ-1 and VZ-10M, patch editing must
be done
	with a computer
	* the only VZ that can be used with the Casio guitar synth and wind
synth,
	I believe
	* you can actually edit sounds on the VZ-8M, save them to a RAM
card, and
insert that card in the Casio guitar synth to get new sounds

Note, I don't have one myself. Just gathered this much from
research.

Thanks to the recommendations of the group a while back I picked up
a VZ-8M
for $99 on Ebay. [...] What is the patch compatibility of this
device? I
would guess that it's fully compatible with VZ-1 and VZ-10M
patches/sysex.
How about the CZ patch compatibility?
