Re: EZ-CZ cartridge question!

2005-05-08 by steve_the_composer

It is indeed a 64 voice cartridge. The two switches are used to
select how you access the banks. With the CZ-3000/CZ-5000 you can
access A/B [16 patches] and C/D [16 patches] wthe the switches in one
setting. To access another set of 32 patches (and to flip A/B with
C/D) you need to move the switches.

The four possibilities are:

(1) A/B set 1 going to CZ A/B; C/D set 1 going to CZ C/D.
(2) A/B set 2 going to CZ A/B; C/D set 2 going to CZ C/D.
(3) C/D set 1 going to CZ A/B; A/B set 1 going to CZ C/D.
(4) C/D set 2 going to CZ A/B; A/B set 2 going to CZ C/D.

The switch settings for these configurations are:

(1)
X_
X_

(2)
X_
_X

(3)
_X
X_

(4)
_X
_X

Where X represents the position of the switch when you are looking at
the EZ-CZ right side up (hump on top/connector on bottom, switches on
left side of the front.

I believe this was done so that the CZ-101 could access 4 different
sets of 16 patches.

Basically, you can leave the top switch in the left position and move
the bottom switch to go from set 1 to set 2. (With both switches on
the left, moving the top one will simply swap AB with CD [set 1].)

Also, I don't think the banks work properly in the CZ-1.

BTW, if you don't have the original packaging, it suggests to replace
the batters within a year. (Of course, mine were still good after 5-8
years of non-use.) The package also says memory will remain up to 5
minutes while changing the batteries.

But don't blame me if it doesn't. I'm just telling you what it says.

Hope this helps.

PS: If you have a digital camera, could you make and send me a jpg of
the EZ-CZ showing the switches? If so, I will try to make a guide to
post in the files section.

Hmmmm. Just opened mine up. Looks like the original batteries. They
must be almost 20 years old!!!! In addition to the switches, some
resisters and capacitors, and a couple of diodes, there's a SONY 5F
11 - CXK5864P-15L chip and a TI 605BN - SN74HC00N chip. (At least
that's what I think they are. My eyesight is not what it used to be.)
