I think we're shooting in the same direction, but where you stated the VZ doesn't sound like a CZ or a DZ, I would say "yeah, they don't sound exactly alike, but depending on the patches they can sound pretty damn similar." There's a VERY similar digital quality on some of the string patches on the VZ that sound very CZ-like to me (very static), though some the electric piano patches on the VZ prompt more of a DX comparison. Good description on the DX sounds. Definitely the smoother quality of sound (and "glassy") with DX-FM. I went nuts over the FM sound (ironically) after hearing Eddie Jobson's "Theme of Secrets" recorded with a Synclavier II. Have an FS1R, DX200, CZ-1, and a VZ-10 and they all have different strengths though I mostly use them in similar roles. My only advice with the VZ-10 (and it's already been touched on in earlier posts) is it's not the friendliest beast to program. Easier than a DX (without software assistance), but still menu/button intensive. My investment of time tweaking doesn't always yield the usable results I'm looking for when I just want to make music. Still, if you're a synth nut, it's a way-cool means of synthesis that's fun to play with...
