RE: [CZsynth] Controller ?

2005-09-28 by John Girvin

Hi Joe,

One thing that MIGHT be worth looking into is the CZ's
rather vague general tuning buttons. if you hold either of them down,
the pitch will slowly rise or fall. perhaps give it a ride up and down
and see if this "resets" it. the other possibility is to check into the
S03 to see if it is sending out a transpose message. thinking about it
now, why don't you try any other keyboard or module you can borrow (or a
friendly music store) and see if the S03 makes the slave keyboard also
play sharp. You could also try making the CZ the master and the S03 the
slave to see how this affects pitch. well, just a few thoughts, I've
owned a CZ since '84!!! -- JGJGJG

Subject: [CZsynth] Controller ?

Hey All!

First of all I'm new here so hi to anybody reading this! Okay, about
a month ago I bought a CZ101 from a guy in a musician's forum. The
synth was sight-unseen by me, I didn't know a thing about Casio
synths, but the price was right and the guy said it worked fine.
Well it does, it looks and works like brand new in fact. I love it!
But here's my issue; Ya know those tiny little keys, their all cute
and funky and everything? Well they drive me nuts! My fingers are
kind of longish (guitar player!) and I have the hardest time playing
chords on the 101. I know it was probably meant more for leads, but
I even have trouble with those. Well, the only other synth I have is
a Yamaha SO3, so I thought I would use it for double duty as a midi
controller for the 101. And it works fine except for one thing; the
SO3 keyboard plays the 101 one note flat. If I play the "f" key on
the SO3, the "e" note sounds on the 101.(B.T.W., in this setup, if I
play the "f" key on the Casio, the "f" note sounds...wierd,huh?).
Okay, so I just transposthe Casio one note sharp and problem solved.
I did it, it worked. But this bugs me so what I'm asking is, does
anybody know why? Did I set one of the midi settings wrong or what?
Can I fix it? Even though it will play on key in this setup it still
bugs the crap outta me, so if anybody has any answers I'd sure
appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks,
Joe
