I don't calim to be an expert in electronics, but I know that the optoelectronic coupler on the MIDI port actually died in my Bit 01 a while ago, and it was a $6 part that my friend successfully installed for me. If the unit seems healthy otherwise (like you can change and edit patches and store them to memory), but the MIDI functionality is gone, that could be one possibility. Also, my VZ-8m behaved erratically when the backup battery died, you might want to check it as well. I recommend buying a small plastic enclosure for a AA or AAA battery (can be attached to the circuit board with double sided mounting tape) and a lithium cell in that format. It will last literally a lifetime. I've done this mod on my unit. regards Maxim --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, dom <dom@m...> wrote: > > hi all > > my vz-8m is no longer responding to midi. i never got around to > programming it [no acceptable mac os x software], but did use it for > its unusual, edgy sounds, which cut through all the other, more > harmonious ones. > > it's a shame: if anyone has any quick ideas about it [lights are all > on, nobody home], like a 'reset' or something, please share. > > if you really want it [and are in the UK], i will part with it, on > the understanding that it doesn't work, for a modest price. > > dominic >
