1) If Sysx really works for sounds on the RZ-1, of course it should be used instead of tape. 2) If the pinout of the DIN plug is known, I personally would intstall a minijack or two in the back, and just use that intstead. That should be easy. Minimal soldering. 3) People have compressed the WAV files containing patches into MP3 in the past, and it worked. If you go ahead with the project, you could do same.
