Hi Micah,
I own a Moog Source (the supposed Minimoog replacement) and a CZ-1 and I
can see where your coming from. The CZ can sound Moog(ish) but once you've
warmed up the Moog it has far more depth of character than the CZ mainly
because its analogue and the classic Moog VCF. Saying that, the CZ can produce
staggering solo lead sounds which sound more like an analogue synth than a lot
of other digi synths. Probably due to the CZ's analogue type user interface /
OS. If anything it sounds more Arp than Moog. I don't know what CZ model you
have but the CZ-1 with it's velocity / aftertouch features help the sound
nuances when performing solo lead sounds. I must admit I have Moog Modular V (VA
software synth) and think its awefully close to the classic Moog sound,
without any VCO drifting. Anyhow, the CZ is certainly able to hold its ground
against a lot of analogue, digi and softsynths.
Midcomsys.
