I think it's not balanced, but anyway you'd probably want to use the 1/4" outputs as there are two of them- for stereo patches or multi-mode this is very useful.

Subject: [CZsynth] The joys of a brand new VZ-10m
Hello all, I just joined this group to get the VZ programming pdf in
the files section, but I just thought I'd share my VZ joy with you
all. I just bought one, brand new unopened in the box for $100. Now,
I've been using midi gear for over 15 years, and aside from my first
two synthesizers, purchased with an insurance settlement, I've been
relegated to picking up whatever I can find very cheaply on the used
market. So my rig is not pretty, much of the equipment is beat up or
had to be repaired before I could use it. So what a joy it was to open
up a brand new VZ, with all the little accessories that most people
have probably lost by now. The pouch for the ROM card, and the plastic
cheat-sheet cards, for example. And did you know the VZ-10m originally
came with a free MIDI cable, a 1/4" to RCA cable and the chunkiest 1/4"
to RCA adaptor I've ever seen? OH well, I had considered keeping it
sealed in the box as a 'collectors item' since it survived so long
there already, but I wanted to use it and unpacking it was so much fun!
Anyway, does anyone know for sure whether the XLR output is balanced?
I suspect it isn't but I've been using it anyway since my 1/4" cables
are in shorter supply than my XLR cables...
