Re: Who Still Uses A CZ?

2009-05-09 by DM

Oh yeah, I still use a CZ...though on the road now (where I can't haul a CZ) I admit I'm pleasantly surprised with the Phase Modulation capability of Thor in Reason 4.0, and find myself wishing the CZ-1 had some of the parameter control Thor has. It even has the simulated resonance waves and "ring" option, which are a lot of what I love about the CZ synths. Another plus is 3 possible active wave forms, instead of just the 2 with the CZ. Biggest drawback with Thor is only ADSR envelope control...no 8-stage envelopes.

Started with a CZ-1000 20 years ago (which died about 7 years ago), and now use a CZ-1, CZ-5000, and a VZ-10M. The CZ-1 is my main board of the three I use, and it finds it's way into more than half the stuff I sequence/record into Sonar. Were the VZ-10M easier to program, I'd probably use that more, but the CZ-1 is much quicker to program for sound ideas I have. I just really like the PM/PD and FM sound in a mix (have an FS1R as well)...and as mentioned by a few on here, prefer hardware to software (where time and space allow).

I have a Moog Voyager and an Alesis A6 (which, don't get me wrong, are AWESOME), but the CZ's get used almost as much as those two, if that says anything...

Cheers,
WadRad
