I'd use the off switch in the menue, since this should bypass the 
Chorus circuit. Other than that the S/N Ratio isn't too bad for a 80s 
Synths, so using a gate is very helpfull to reduce the pure 
background noise, when the synth isn't making any sound, what should 
solve most of the problems.
