Hey yall - Yeah I know, I shouldn't be trying to get crisp clean minimalistic type electro sounds out of a CZ, but it's all I got to work with and I just don't dig all the fuzz going on in the output signal. Is this just a consequence of lower quality components or is there a way around it?

Do you mean turning it off with a hardware mod or just turning it down on the front panel? If yes is there an improvement to disabling it with a hardware mod compared to using the front panel? I also have a problem with noisy output with my CZ-3000 and CZ-1 and would love to be able to improve it. > Message Received: Aug 14 2009, 12:35 PM > From: "Summa" > To: CZsynth@yahoogroups.com > Cc: > Subject: Re: [CZsynth] Any mods to make a CZ1 quieter? > > > Turning off the chorus helps alot... > > > On 14 Aug 2009 at 2:45, discodave1974 wrote: > > > Hey yall - > > > > Yeah I know, I shouldn't be trying to get crisp clean minimalistic > > type electro sounds out of a CZ, but it's all I got to work with and > > I just don't dig all the fuzz going on in the output signal. There is a gain pot in the output section that may be cranked up too far. Look at the Service Manuals when you get a chance. --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, tim@... wrote:

I'd use the off switch in the menue, since this should bypass the Chorus circuit. Other than that the S/N Ratio isn't too bad for a 80s Synths, so using a gate is very helpfull to reduce the pure background noise, when the synth isn't making any sound, what should solve most of the problems. ...Summa On 14 Aug 2009 at 14:00, tim@... wrote: > > > Do you mean turning it off with a hardware mod or just turning it > down on the front panel? > If yes is there an improvement to disabling it with a hardware mod > compared to using the front panel? > I also have a problem with noisy output with my CZ-3000 and CZ-1 and > would love to be able to improve it. > > > > Message Received: Aug 14 2009, 12:35 PM > > From: "Summa" > > To: CZsynth@yahoogroups.com > > Cc: > > Subject: Re: [CZsynth] Any mods to make a CZ1 quieter? > > > > > > Turning off the chorus helps alot... > > > > > > On 14 Aug 2009 at 2:45, discodave1974 wrote: > > > > > Hey yall - > > > > > > Yeah I know, I shouldn't be trying to get crisp clean > minimalistic > > > type electro sounds out of a CZ, but it's all I got to work with > and > > > I just don't dig all the fuzz going on in the output signal. (totally useless feature) The fader stays permanently down. However, there's still background hiss in the output. I have never noticed any additional improvement by turning "Chorus" off in the menu, but I'll try it again just to see. I can use a gate, but even better than using a gate is to have a q uiet instrument & signal path. That's why I was wondering about hardware mods. -disco d

Before you try changing the op amps, look in the service manual for how to to the DAC offset adjustment. It gets rid of the fuzz :)
