Hmmm... I'm not sure if the display of the CZ-1000 is supposed to be lit,
but the one of my CZ-1 has some kind of light foil at the back of it's
display... 
In case it is broken it's possible to replace it...

Well, I have the same problem it seems to happen when the buttons weren't
used for some time. After using it more often they'd start to work again...

I still prefere programming my CZ directly, since I'm used to it, but I
found some links at synthzone with editor software. Other than that it's
possible to use an ATARI ST emulator STEEM and run CZ editor software (check
Tim's ATARI midi World) on PC and in case you're a mac user there's probably
on a similar software avaiable too...
