Casio CZ/ VZ/ FZ - Pro Series

Hi Steve,

Feel free to not use rechargeable batteries. Everybody can do whatever they want. Personally, I don't like sending buckets of single-use batteries to the waste facility, and I do like running things off batteries sometimes.

Your concerns also don't really relate to the OP's question. He just wants to make sure he doesn't lose his patches while at a gig. That could be easily accomplished by good rechargeable batteries, the 9V mod, or a couple of sets on single-use D batteries.

As for your EZ/CZ cartridge, things like that take the barest trickle of energy to keep the RAM from losing its data. In that use scenario, an alkaline battery makes sense for the reasons you stated. An even better solution for you would be to store those sounds on your PC, and not on a cartridge. Then take those batteries out of that cartridge before storing it! If you haven't had gear ruined by being stored with the batteries in it, then you've dodged a bullet.

The chemistry of rechargeables is getting better every year, it seems to me. One of the big downsides of rechargeables is their initial cost. Good ones can seem quite expensive. You have to think of rechargeables as an investment, and even then they still seem expensive.
