Re: [CZsynth] replacement for VZ-10M LCD display (or VZ-1, FZ-1)

2011-05-06 by Lee Borrell

I would certainly be interested in any info - My Fz has no backlight and the RZ1 has a failed backlight too. I recall that either the CZ or DX forum guys mentioned that there was a site that offered backlight replacement...I will trawl my back emails....someone had also replaced a backlight in a Cz I think using Acrylic plastic and LEDS.....

Hi folks,

I was thinking of completely replacing the LCD display in my VZ-10M, and I was wondering if you have any advice.

The EL-foil backlight has almost completely faded (and I understand that I could just replace the foil), but the response time of the ancient LCD panel is also a bit sluggish, etc. -- and I'm sure things would be greatly improved with a more modern part.

In fact, I have already had success upgrading my Kawai K5000W with a fabulous "reverse" white-on-blue LED backlit display. It also suffered from a faded EL-foil. It felt like getting a whole new synth!

So... has anyone here already done something like this to their VZ-10M? Or perhaps VZ-1 or FZ-1 (which I believe use the same display)?

Most importantly, does anybody know of a compatible part, preferably LED backlit, or using some other (non-EL) light source? Of course, I've tried Googling, but no luck yet.

Does anyone have the VZ-10M, VZ-1, or FZ-1 service manual? (I do not.) If so, could you try to find the original part number or other clues for me?

I'll be sure to share anything I find out as well.

Cheers!
- Matt
