Re: [CZsynth] Re: and on that note...

One reason why I didn't go for the Poly-800 all those years ago in the 1980s was that it only had one VCF for all 8 voices. The VCA envolope was fully polyphonic (OK for piano, organ or string sounds) but the VCF articulation was either single- or multiple-triggered. So with a brass sound for example you couldn't hold down a chord and solo over it without either the whole lot getting the brass "wah" each time you played a new note or alternatively the solo notes lacking a brass-like attack, depending on the setting. I know that the Polymoog had the same issue ten years earlier, but it was something I wouldn't have been prepared to put up with by the mid 1980s.

Thanks for the tip! The Poly 800 is definitely also on my list of low-cost synths to start my collection with, along with Ensoniq ESQ-1, Kawai K3 and a couple other more obscure ones that seem to be going for lower prices these days.

But for some reason, the CZ-synths seem to be calling to me... They just seem to go well with the kind of music I make.

I have a line on a CZ-5000 for about $160 shipped, which seems like a decent deal, but I'm a bit more interested in a CZ-1 (for the nicer keyboard) or CZ-101 (for the size and supposed incredible lap steel guitar sounds) if I can find one. Then again, I'd jump at a 1000 or 3000 if the price was right. How it looks doesn't matter so much as long as it works right.
