Hi! Regarding my datadial at http://go.to/datadial : Yes the data dial sits in parallel with the buttons (with analog switches) and need a +5V supply, but work also with 3.3V. In the casio Cz101 I added diodes so that I can use a simpler installation point in the circuit so that it doesn't need a complete deinstallation of the PCBs. These diodes are decoupling diodes as used in most keyboard matrixes. It is stable when not in use. It outputs short pulses if you turn it, otherwise it is quiet. The pulse and pause length can be set via a "safe code entry procedure". Normally you only make this once after installation and the values are stored in an onbaord eeprom in the microcontroller and will be loaded after you power the synth on. It can be used for many gadgets where you want to add a nicer input method than those crazy plus/minus buttons... memeory cards: I would not buy the PCMCIA cards and rewire them for the VZ synth. too much effort. The PCMCIA cards could be used for the EMU morpheus and maybe other synths. If you want to myke VZ cards then make a new PCB (with Eagle or similar tool, the freeware version would be enough) and order a double sided PCB from one of the PCB prototype services, but keep in mind to order quite thin PCBs, the standard 1.6mm would be too thick...
