Re: [CZsynth] RA3 Cartridge Battery

2012-03-24 by 350ypvs@googlemail.com

The 1000 is the same electronically inside as a 101. The 1000 is basically
a 101 with full sized keys. The 6 'D' batteries for the 101/ 1000 are meant
for them to be operated without a PSU, they're not primarily meant for
memory backup though they have that effect when the baby CZ's are switched
off. Note that in comparison, the bigger CZ 3000/ 5000 use smaller AA
batteries (and less of them), which are only used for memory back up.

The 6 'D' cells don't last very long if used on their own (without a PSU)
and they aren't a very common or popular type of battery. They're also
expensive compared with more popular batteries. plus they add quite a bit
of weight to the CZ. Additionally, if left in for a long time you run the
risk of battery leakage.

Hence most people like myself never use batteries in a CZ101/ 1000,
preferring instead to stick with the PSU. It is just a shame that there
isn't a modern small style battery used just for memory back up. And as
mentioned, I'm sure my 101 originally did keep it's patches without being
powered, though it was a lot newer then. Maybe whatever component was used
to keep the patches breaks down with age and no longer works.
