re: getting a 2nd bank, not much at all. but if you go look in the save preset mode, you'll find it offers the option to save 'Card1'-suggesting there might be a (Card2)... tbh, i never hoped for more banks: you get INT bank(64), and the ram bank. that gives 128, which is enough to play around with on this machine. i could almost fill it with variations on TOI TOI.. but i have found some really (schlusch) 'wonderful' variations on 'cinema'. i'm chuffed i kept my atari ST, and all my softwares for it, as the editor/librarian is excellent, with its randomizer. i've got quite a few arpeggiation patches saved from my last vz8m> i also have czartist and had a cz101. after randomizing both, i found the limitations of the cz, and it went in a guilt-driven thinning out of my then set-up. this eventually took the vz too! i figured i'd get a vz10m, in my projective logic(yeah. i never got a ms20 either, after selling my ms10...bad mistake). you used to see them all the time, and the hohner variant too. and then i did the VST thing for years. so when this appeared for 60 quid, i snapped it up without a thought. mad hardcore synth, for me :o) if you want/need the editor, let me know. --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "Graham" <gmeredith1@...> wrote: > > A VZ-10M. I must have been mistaken though, because looking at the schematics for both cards, the RAM chip is a 256K SRAM chip while the ROM card has a 512k PROM chip - offering twice the capacity of the RAM card. Perhaps i was confused with the times I used a ROM card in it and could access 2 extra banks. > > > > > > My mistake everyone (diappearing back into my swamp now.....) > > > > > > Cheers, Graham > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "Graham" <gmeredith1@> wrote: > > > > > > > > I don't think either manuals do a very good job at describing what actually really happens, but I think that the idea is that the RAM card in the VZ10M can either store 64 sounds and 64 operation memories -- OR -- 128 sounds and no operation memories, and in the VZ8M can store 64 sounds and 64 operation memories, BUT NOT 128 sounds and zero op memories. Either way, the RA500 can store 128 pieces of individual data, and on the VZ10M you have a choice of the mix of these 2 whereas the VZ8M doesn't allow such mix. I would presume that if your card was formatted in the VZ8M, only 64 patch memories would show up, but you WOULD see another 64 memory spaces in "operation" mode. That's just a guess, though. > > > > > > > > Cheers, Graham > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "k9k9dog" <domgoold@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > 'OR TO AN OPTIONAL RAM CARD WHICH HOLDS AS MANY AS 128 SOUNDS' > > > > > (...!) m#####f#####... well, i have a vz8 anyway...let's check > > > > > page 9 on that...(this is getting boring for some people) > > > > > > > > > > 'OR TO AN OPTIONAL RAM CARD WHICH HOLDS AS MANY AS 64 SOUNDS' > > > > > so there you have it. prime difference between vz8 and vz10. > > > > > my card must have been used previously in a vz10, and i never > > > > > formatted it. still, it is strange that the OS offers to save > > > > > out the second bank. i guess it is there, but the vz8 can't read > > > > > it. maybe there's a little mod that can give the vz8 more patches. > > > > > i'll persevere a bit more, but i'm not unhappy with what i have. > > > > > sysex dumps, and the poss of finding another card-or two...- will > > > > > do. i also still have my atari and a very good editor librarian > > > > > and randomizer(that took me all the way round this machine quite > > > > > quickly). any info on this is welcome, though, of course. > > > > > > > > > > --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "Graham" <gmeredith1@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > Did you try saving to the card in NORMAL mode? The VZ10M manual on p9 says that in NORMAL mode you can save 128 patches to the card. When you go to save your patch, does pressing the card button several times on the VZ cause it to toggle through the RA500 CARD1 and CARD2 banks when it askes you where you want to save your patch??? ..anyway it won't be too long before I get my new card and I can remember what I did. > > > > > > > > > > > > Cheers, Graham > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "k9k9dog" <domgoold@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > extra bank saga: > > > > > > > lol: ALL THREE manuals state: the RAM card stores 64 > > > > > > > operation memories and 64 patches. Its been ages since I used the RAM card to know what I did. All I know is that I was able to save sounds to the RAM card that went into "bank 2" when selected in the guitar. Since the VZ10M manuual says you can save 128 patches, maybe the VZ8M is different?? I'll let you know how it works as soon as I get my new card (about 2 weeks) :) > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Cheers, Graham > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > no mention on vz8 of any second bank...:( > > > > > > > > > BUT if you do 'save' it does offer option of > > > > > > > > > card1/2... > > > > > > > > > ?? > > > > > > > > > i tried all sorts of button combinations, to see > > > > > > > > > if it brought up card2...didn't happen. > > > > > > > > > rtfm. search continues. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "k9k9dog" <domgoold@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > wow, i'm confused now. :( > > > > > > > > > > :) > > > > > > > > > > gonna have to study this. and i'll probably be hunting > > > > > > > > > > for another ra500 too. did you say the ra100 worked? > > > > > > > > > > never seen one. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > are you sure it doesn't just have dead internal battery? > > > > > > > > > > most(all?) cards have a battery(?). schems are available > > > > > > > > > > on a VZ page anyway. > > > > > > > > > > i'll have to have a fiddle with the bank button, see what gives. > > > > > > > > > > ?normal/combination/multi? .. maybe the vz8 differs from the 10? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --- In CZsynth@yahoogroups.com, "Graham" <gmeredith1@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Just checked the VZ10M manual - it states that you can store 64 patches and 64 operation memories - so in essence 128 actual storage allotments. These cards were meant for the HT series keyboards but has anyone tried them in the VZ-1/8M/10M as an alternative to the RA-500 RAM card? I ask this as i'm looking for an RA-500 or an alternative right now. I think the RA-100 only has 64 memories (1 bank) as opposed to the RA500 with 128 (2 banks). > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Or has anyone got an RA500 for sale?? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Cheers, Graham > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
