The DSS-1 is basically a poor man's Jupiter 8, without the knobs but with
waveform sampling and dual delays instead.

The DSM-1 has more sampling memory and better multitimrality (16 individual
outs!), but the synth section is not as good. The VCF does not have 12 or
24 Db modes or resonance (the DSS-1 does), nor does it have those fabulous
dual delays. The DSM is generally considered a bit dissapointing compared
to a DSS-1, which is a musician's dream.

I picked up a DSS1 for 100 a couple of years ago. Aparts from needing to
keep a pre-Windows XP PC working to make the disks with (not an easy task)
and the size and weight of the thing (27kgs!), it is fabulous. (or at least
will be again when I manage to replace the LCD display)

And compliments CZ sounds very nicely (to keep on topic)
