I have the VZ-8m which is somewhat similar. Right now I am housecleaning, so I cannot access it, but if Daniel's excellent suggestion doesn't help, I will look to see if the VZ-8m and VZ-1 menu switching system are the same. As Daniel pointed out, various modes change what you can access.

Also, you wrote, " I purchased the CZ-1 so I could get my fingers on a polyphonic synth. Unfortunately, my computer is not robust enough to handle the synth chords I've been playing . . . ."

I am not sure how the computer has anything to do with what you can play with the CZ-1. If you are talking about just handling audio via the sound card or sound chip, Windows 98SE era PCs with run-of-the-mill sound chips could handle multi-track audio from CZ ages ago. However, since you have the capacity to run softsynth plug-ins, I am guessing you have a more modern computer.

However, running the CZ through external effects and then into software plug-ins for additional effects could be overloading the audio card and/or the computer's CPU, depending how much of a CPU hog the software is.

So, if the computer's audio is what you mean, have you tried just the CZ-1?

Hope this helps.
