I've found the VZ-1 to work nicely with MidiQuest. Some things to check:
* On the VZ-1, in menu 3-04: Midi Data, you have to set EXCLUSIVE=ENA. The VZ-1 will reset this option whenever you power off, so you have to enable it each time. I find this very annoying.
* Also on Menu 3, you probably want to disable Internal Memory protection, which also will be enabled after each power on.
* When I first hooked up my VZ to the computer, I was routing MIDI Data through a virtual Midi port. That didn't work with MidiQuest. So. for Midi-Quest, you might check to use the actual physical Midi-port to communicate with your synth.
With all this done, I can nicely edit the VZ, and more importantly use MidiQuest as a librarian for the hundreds of excellent free patches available for the synth.
Good luck!
