Cool, thatnks for the tip. I'll have to try this out this weekend. -----Original Message----- From: Scott Nordlund [mailto:gsn10@...] Sent: Tuesday, July 30, 2002 4:51 PM To: CZsynth@yahoogroups.com Subject: [CZsynth] VZ PWM Maybe everyone knows about this already but I just found out how to get decently realistic PWM effects on my VZ-10M. And it only uses 2 lines.. Set the second line (M3 and M4) to mix and cut M3 off (it's not necessary for PWM but obviously you can use it for other things). Turn EXT PHASE on. Set the wave of M4 to saw. Set the first line (M1 and M2) to mix. Turn M1 off for now. Set M2 to a sine wave, and the env mod to 00. Unless I've messed up already it should just be a square wave now. Now turn M1 on, set the wave to sine, and the tuning to some sort of low frequency fixed thing. Mess with the env mod a bit and that's PWM. BUT where it should be a narrow pulse the wave just sort of smooths out. I made this is a little better by turning the env mod of M2 to 11. This makes the square wave sound more realistic too. Then I set the env mod of M1 to around 55-58 or so. It sounds surprisingly analog, and it's not even anything complicated. I've got it on mine so that it's got 2 sets of this going on, each a little detuned. Another nice trick to do is to turn M3 on, set line 2 to ring, and set M3's wave to sine and the frequency to 1/2. Obviously there are a lot of interesting variations here that have no real equivalent analog process. Audio rate PWM has a nice metallic sort of sound... _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com <http://messenger.msn.com> Yahoo!
