Oh yeah there's no doubt that the XD-5 runs circles around the RZ-1. But the RZ-1 is fun in its own way. You're just kind of screwed if it's your only percussion module. But remember that the RZ-1 does have .8 second of 8 bit sampling memory..whew that's cool. Its 2001 and most drum machines still don't have sampling capabilities!! Not even .8 of a seconds worth.... I have a VB program that I wrote that transfers samples in and out of the RZ-1, its about ½ written. I've got the sample dumps and loads all written and working but haven't written the code yet that allows you to import wave files and convert them to RZ format. I'm not even really sure how to go about doing this, that's why my programs been ½ written for about a year now. Some day I'll come back to it. I always thought that if I could get my PC to dump samples into the RZ it would breath new life into it. Speaking of the RZ I've heard it used in exactly 2 commercial recordings: Thomas Dolby's "Budapest By Blimp" Kraftwelt's "Retroish" It's funny because once you've owned a RZ-1 you'll recognize the sound instantly when you hear it again. Especially those hi-hats.
