A horrible fate - stuck with the rythemic click in
slot 16 while other sounds go homeless.

Hehehhehe..pretty perverse huh? Just out of curiosity has anyone ever used
patch #16 percussion for anything? I always thought that is sounded like
someone hitting plywood with a toy hammer and never I've found a use for it.
Anyone else manage to make this preset useful? Ever?

It actually sounds interesting, the way you describe it.
I bet if you apply some FX, like ringmod or distortion,
you can get a cool sound.

Does it sound a bit like a table tennis ball hitting the table? I once used
the CZ101 of a friend and used a sound like that...
It isn't part of the CZ-1 presets isn't it?

Hey that's an even better description than mine!! I can't remember if that
preset made it on the CZ-1 or not. Unlike the other CZs the CZ-1 allows you
to write over all of its presets, I haven't listened my CZ-1's presets in
about 3 years as a result. Hahaha...maybe it's time to initialize that puppy
and take an instant time trip back to 1985!!! 1985 here I come........

Now I feel bad about bashing the poor CZ101/1000 preset number 16. Some of
those presets were pretty good, like the Hammond organ one. That one always
impressed me.

the cz-1 can recall the presets without erasing the user memory....

i forget how to do it, but it's in the manual.
basically, the cz-1 is like 64 factory sounds, ~AND~ 64 user sounds.

Really? Maybe there's some way to go straight from the backup rom to the ram
that's holding the active sound with out first storing the patch in the
preset RAM. I seem to remember that the CZ-1 had a few cool tricks like that
from reading the manual a while back (its been a long while back). Can't you
also copy envelope settings or something too? I seem to remember being
impressed by being able to do something like that too. Really though, I do
almost all my CZ editing via PC so I never get to play with these CZ-1
tricks. I really really like my CZ-1, it's an awesome synth. One of my all
time favorites. Just out of curiosity how many Casio's do you all have? I'll
go first:
CZ-1000 =My first synth
CZ-5000 =Latest addition to the collection, $70 from local pawn shop so I
couldn't resist. It's missing the volume slider knob though. = ( Anyone
have a spare?
CZ-1 =Yeah this rocks!!
VZ-8m
2 VZ-10ms =I bought all the VZs new for a few $100 each, well worth it too.
I love them.
1 PG-380 Midi Guitar =Cool instrument but mine needs repair as it's got the
dreaded PG380 bad capacitor disease
1 MG500 Midi Guitar =Guitar I play most, its light, sounds good, plays well,
looks evil and outputs MIDI to boot.
DG-20 Midi Horn =LOL!
MT-68 =Actually this was my first synth, it's analog too!! Actually this my
first argument that analog doesn't necessarily sound good.

As far as I remember by holding initialize and pressing the programm number,
the sound will transfered into the edit buffer...

CZ-1 (usually running through a boss SE-70)
CZ-101 (none right now, but i've had several pass through my hands)
CZ-1000 (see CZ-101)

i almost forgot... i also had an FZ-10m for a few month. i got it to do
additive synthesis (before the k5000 came out) and was not happy with it.

but, for a digital sampler with analog filters, i miss it.

RE: [CZsynth] (unknown)

Oh yeah there's no doubt that the XD-5 runs circles around the RZ-1. But the
RZ-1 is fun in its own way. You're just kind of screwed if it's your only
percussion module. But remember that the RZ-1 does have .8 second of 8 bit
sampling memory..whew that's cool. Its 2001 and most drum machines still
don't have sampling capabilities!! Not even .8 of a seconds worth....

I have a VB program that I wrote that transfers samples in and out of the
RZ-1, its about ½ written. I've got the sample dumps and loads all written
and working but haven't written the code yet that allows you to import wave
files and convert them to RZ format. I'm not even really sure how to go
about doing this, that's why my programs been ½ written for about a year
now. Some day I'll come back to it. I always thought that if I could get my
PC to dump samples into the RZ it would breath new life into it.

Speaking of the RZ I've heard it used in exactly 2 commercial recordings:
Thomas Dolby's "Budapest By Blimp"
Kraftwelt's "Retroish"

It's funny because once you've owned a RZ-1 you'll recognize the sound
instantly when you hear it again. Especially those hi-hats.

In my case...

I have...

CZ-1
VZ-1

I used

FZ-1 (from a friend, all together I had it for a lot of weeks, from a
projekt member, even opened and repaired it)
SK-1 (from another fried, used it for some weeks when I was on vacation with
my class, looong time ago)
CZ-101 (Made music with that one and my CZ-1 in a computer shop)

I was happy they implemented it at all... and it's simple to handle, on most
synths I know it's not that easy to copy envelopes...

Yeah, good thought... My CZ3000 has a guitar preset that sounds
pretty evil when processed!

Just out of curiosity how many Casio's do you
all have?

CZ-101
CZ-1000
CZ-3000
CZ-1
VZ-1
VZ-10m
(2)VZ-8M

I use the CZ-101 and 1000 mostly as portable battery opperated
synths.
You can take these anywhere.
My other Casios are part of my current keyboard set. Have a
Kurzweil ribbon controller on my VZ-1.

RE: [CZsynth] (unknown)

2 cz101s and 2 cz1000s have passed my way- one of the cz1000s is sitting in
my front room in pieces- its beyond repair, shame. I have also had in the
past an sk-1 which wasn't mine and I've managed to lose (sorry Al), I
actually used it on a track (sampled some wind chimes). Right now I have a
VZ8m and a MG510 MIDI controller but perhaps that's a little OT

CZ-101 (Made music with that one and my CZ-1 in a computer shop)

Here's my own gear list...

CZ-3000 (first synth, still use it for every project)
CZ-1
Roland Alpha-Juno 2
Alesis Sr-16
Zoom Rhythmtrak234
plus lots of toy Casios (Sk-1 + 5, PT1, etc)

I'm currently using the CZs as minimal electronic accompaniment
to a toy piano project, http://twink.net

No, not yet. I'm working on it though. I mostly used the CZ3000 as a
MIDI controller, and only recently acquired the others. But I still
log in more hours on the CZ-101 than any other synth I own. My
favorite lead synth!

 Hey Jon,
You can never have too many. These synths are great for many sounds.
I forgot to mention I have a pair of the official CZ remote keyboards,
the AZ-1. The best remote I have used. I even have a Casio Cosmo
Synth shirt!

No kidding, you really can't have too many for what they do and at the price
they go for. Where in the world did you get a Cosmo Synth T Shirt? That's
too cool.
