hello

2001-04-24 by john w.

Hi everybody,

I was reading over the old messages on the yahoo site,
and I thought that this would be an excellent group to
join! I got my Casio CZ-1000 off of Ebay sometime
this past fall or winter. It's my first synth, and I
thought that it would be a good way to get some patch
programing down. I've had mixed luck with programing
patches, most of the ones that I've made from scratch
haven't ended up working. I've also some trouble with
the tuning of the instrument... it seems that on the
master tune that C is too flat, and that C# is too
sharp! Is that just me, or is anybody else
experiencing that? I use the CZ-1000 mostly with my
band, Tomorrow's Retro Future.
http://www.angelfire.com/art/trf But I also use it
on my solo stuff. I don't have any way of getting
patches from the computer onto the synth, because CZ
Librarian (mac) crashes my computer. So, anyway, if
anybody has any cool analog or 80s sounding patches
that they have typed into their computer, I'd really
apreciate it if you could send them to me!

Nate

Hmmm... haven't done this for some time, you should be able to do some fine
tuning by holding the master tune key and using the value keys. I gets
initialised when pressing master tune, up and both value keys together. At
least that's the way it works on the CZ-1...

I have uploaded some sound files to the files section...

RE: [CZsynth] hello

2001-04-25 by Furman, Jon W.

Welcome to the CZ Nate. The CZ is an excellent synth to learn sound
programming on. It was my first synth also (way back in '85) and I still
love it. I think that the problem that you're having with tuning is because
you are actually fooling with the key transpose function. This will change
the key that the keyboard plays in, not tune the instrument. I think that
the tuning buttons are over on the upper left hand corner of the front panel
and have little up and down arrows on them. Just push one down and you'll
get a slight increment in tuning. You can also send a MIDI command to the CZ
from a PC to set the tuning. Stick with the patch programming on the CZ as
you can learn a lot on this instrument. It's kind of a cross between and
analog and a digital, programming wise, so what you learn here will apply to
a lot of other synths. Don't get too spoiled by the 8 stage envelopes
though, most other synths don't have them. As to why that is I don't
know...I just credit it as being one of those mysteries of life....

Wow, that was pretty foolish of me to neglect the
buttons right on the front of the keyboard panel that
say "master tune", wasn't it?! That's very funny and
strange that I missed that. Does anybody know why the
yahoo group homepage for this group won't let me log
in as a member? I thought I registered, but it always
says I'm a guest and won't let me access anything on
the page.

Hi Nate

Are you clicking on "sign in" at the top right corner each time you
visit the CZsynth group home? Could be the reason, as you would need
to put your profile name and password in each time you vistit the site
to be able to post.

2nd occilator

2001-04-27 by john w.

I noticed recently that when I'm programing patches
into my CZ1000 that whenever I put something into the
second occilator, that when I let up on the keys, the
sound remains on! Nothing will stop it from being
held out until I switch either the patch that I'm
using, or change one of the settings for that patch,
but then it just does it again. Is this something
that is supposed to happen when you have things set a
certain way, or is my second occilator just messed up?

Thanks,

Nate

It sounds like the last stage on the DCA envelope of osc 2 is set to a decay
rate of 0. Go there and fiddle around with that envelope and I bet you'll
get it too work. A quick way to check this is initialize this envelope by
holding down the initialize key and that envelope key at the same time.

those sounds are stored in ROM, and i don't know any way to re-do them,
except for burning a new ROM.

I just joined the group. I have a CZ-1000 I bought off EBAY too.
And the best investment I ever made for learning about the CZ is the
CZ Starter Pack offered on Ebay. The best $20.00 you'll ever spend,
on the original manual and other CZ matters, plus you get about 2,750
patches on a floppy disc.

Incidentally, I too have some trouble with tuning and I use a Fender
guitar tuner to make sure my sound is in tune after I select it.---
