Casio CZ5000 Sequencer

Casio CZ5000 Sequencer

2003-12-10 by keyboardnovice

Hi, I've just bought a Casio CZ5000, problem is I can't work out how
to use the record function on the sequencer! I have tried pushing the
record button and various other things but to no avail. Am I doing
something wrong or have I got a dud keyboard. Unfortunately It didn't
come with the manual.

Please could anybody give me a simple step by step guide on how to
use this feature.

And where I can obtain a manual?

Any help would be much appreciated.

This is definitely a sequencer that takes some fooling around with
to get going. I dont have a manual either, though I dont know that
it would be much help. I'll give you the basics of what I know...

For Real Time sequencing,

1. Put unit in Sequence Mode
2. Press Real Time button WHILE pressing the selected track
3. Configure display with the cursor (increase polyphony here)
4. Press Record
5. Play away...
6. Press Stop
7. Press Reset
8. Press Play to listen to the track you just recorded

For Step-Time Sequencing,

1. Put unit in Sequence Mode
2. Press Manual button WHILE pressing the selected track
3. Select patch with Programmer
4. Press Forward key on Sequencer to Step through sequence
5. Add Portamento/Glide if needed (then forward)
6. Choose Note (use #s 1-8 on sequencer) and press the key on the
keyboard that you want played (this will appear on the display)
7. Continue entering notes and stepping through
8. Press Reset
9. Press Play

I hope this helps to get things moving along...

Kidnoodle, many thanks for the info on the CZ5000 sequencer, I can
now finally use it!

No problem. I wish I had that info about 10 years ago - I would have
spent more time with it. The sequencer was the reason I bought it in
the first place! I just started loading sysex sounds into it using
MIDI-OX and it has given it new life. It is only loading 16 patches
per dump into User banks A & B, though I can still save in C & D.-
I'm not sure if that is normal. But i'm glad I never got rid of it.
It's hard to part with your first synth !

I agree, it is hard to part with your first synth. That's why I
still have my CZ-5000 (purchased in 1985).

Historical note: When the CZ line came out, the CZ-5000 and CZ-3000
were not very common. All the patch dump programs I saw back then
only handles two banks as the software was really written for the CZ-
101/1000.

I have not used MIDI-OX, but am surprised that it can only do banks A
& B.
