my CZ1000 forgets sounds after 5 day

my CZ1000 forgets sounds after 5 day

2004-01-05 by dramklukkel

Hi all,

I bought a 2nd hand CZ1000 a few months ago. Nice machine, really.
But this one forgets its user-sounds after a couple of days, when I
do not turn on the machine for a while. It's about 5 days, then it
starts to forget the user sounds.
-What might cause this problem.?
-Is there an internal battery that has gone old, and if so, where is
it located, can it be replaced, and how?
-If it is not an old battery, then what is causing this problem?

I do not have a manual of the CZ1000.

Kind regards

Ivo (Dramklukkel)

Hi,

I'm not sure about the cz1000 but I have a cz101 and a 5000. The cz has a battery compartment which takes 6 batts, when these are in they preserve the memory data. Check if your 1000 has a battery compartment ,if it does theres your answer.

Another trick that sometimes works is to switch the APO switch to on just before turning the 1000 off this somehow keeps the data in the buffer. I never have batteries in my 101 and it looses its memory if I disconnect the adapter cord, you could try to leave the power lead in but turn off the mains ,leaving the plug in the socket, this way the 1000 should retain a small current enought to retain the memory.

alternately you could scour around for some RA5 cartridges to store the data on, but they are rarer than rocking horse shit, if by chance you do find some they also need batteries replacing about every year.

good luck!

Somewhat related - I have a couple of RA5 cartridges
and I changed the batteries about three years ago and
they are still going strong. I figure that since I
lose the sounds on them when I change the batteries I
will just wait till they run out and hope that Sound
Diver saves the patches correctly. - George

Re: my CZ1000 forgets sounds after 5 day

Hi all, thank you for answering my desperate call for help.

So I need batteries or I need to keep the powerplug in. Well I do not
want to keep the power connected, 'cause you never know what
powerpeaks appear when I'm gone for the holidays. I thought the
batterie compartment was just a 'handsfree while playing' joke.
Thought it was kind of Toy-ish, now it seems to have a serious
purpose.
I do not have a manual, only a copy of page 13-18, so a lot of
guessing is involved for me.
I do not recall what the APO switch is for. Please tell me, someone.
I do not know what use the hidden button at the underside of the
CZ1000 has. It looks like a screw hole (?), but opening the machine
to look for cleus, showed me a button that you can only reach by
pushing a needle or pin in the hole. Mostly that is a reset or
initialise button. However it does nothing apparently.

Anyone know of these things?
TIA

Ivo, you can get a PDF copy of the CZ101 manual here, courtesy of
Craig Wiper:

  ftp://ftp.sonic.net/pub/users/craigw/

The CZ101 is similar enough to the CZ1000 that you will probably be
able to use most of the information.

The APO or Auto Power off switch is an irritating and slightly useful feature to save power , if the synth has no action for a short time it switches itself off regardless of whether you use batteries or an adapter.
The little switch on the back reloads the factory presets in to the internal bank, you have to turn the machine off before pressing this and then switch it back on again to hear some lovely new sounds! There is a pdf manual in the files section for the cz 101 its the same as the 1000 and it explains both features.

Regarding battery life on the RA5's the data sheet that came with mine says that they will retain battery power for considerably longer if they are left in the synth. Once the power runs out on the battery and the cartridge is out of the cz then the data is lost as the charge disapates, so there's a catch either way!

My cartridges are actually RA3's for a CZ101 and since
I have two of them one or the other is not always
plugged in. And again the cart batteries have not been
changed in three years. And god knows how long before
that as they were pulled out of a friends file cabinet
and given to me. Sounds intact. Does anyone else have
such luck with the longevity of Batteries in these
carts ? - G
