CZ-101: Sysex dump to my computer?

CZ-101: Sysex dump to my computer?

2004-03-31 by travesty14850

So... I want to store three banks' worth of my favorite CZ patches as
sysex files. Umm...why can't I find out how to do this from the
archives? Is there a bulk dump command that will spurt out the data
for all 16 patches in internal memory, for saving as a sysex file (I
use the fairly rudimentary Alesis Freeloader to load patches into my
synths, including the CZ)? If somebody can give me step-by-step
instructions on how to accomplish this, I would be really grateful...

with the cz synths, it is not so easy. You cannot even "record" the sound
data to a sequencer and replay them. Casio uses different messages for
sending and receiving, so you must use a dump program. Unisyn is one,
Sounddiver another who should do the trick. There is some freeware around as
well, just google "casio cz dump" or "casio cz sysex". I once wrote an atari
application that should work with atari emulators like steem. It is
available on my site www.matucana.de.

I had success with MidiQuest. I seem to remember that I did have to do it
patch by patch, rather than the entire banks.

Also, responding to the RAM card post - the RAM cards are great to have,
gives you more storage for patches and the patches seem to last longer in
the cards. But... probably a bad idea to rely on them for storage. Use a PC
patch editor/librarian.
