Hi,

the mellotron is some kind of ancient sampler working with tapes, so what
mellotron sound are you refering to?

...Summa

I programmed one many years ago - it's a Mellotron string sound which actually cuts off after 8 seconds, which forces you to play it like a real Mellotron! I also have a nice Mellotronish flute sound which I copied by ear from an early-1980s Casio CT-202.

I'll transcribe them from the patch sheets if you want.

I had a chance to buy a mellotron years ago, but I thought of all the
maintenance I would have to perform and turned it down.

I'd be interested in the parameter sheet too but, ultimately, if
you're serious about emulating a Mellotron, that's best left to
ROMplers. The E-Mu vintage Pro has some nice Mellotron samples...and
none of the maintenance headaches of the real thing!

Hey Simon,

Both of those sound like excellent sounds to have in a CZ - I look forward
to your post and to trying them out!

Simon,

That sounds great, my band mate wanted a cz-mellotron sound for a song we
play.

Thanks!

May I have a copy of that ?
Could offer a just-found-killer-bass for CZ-1
as sysex or SoundDiver library.

Re: [CZsynth] Re: Mellotron

I don't want payment for my CZ patches - I'm happy to share them. What I WOULD ask is that you visit my "company" website, www.alphabeck.co.uk and once you've checked it out, go to the Links page and take a look at my famous Hall of Electric Pianos website and Vintage Keys E-Zine if you haven't already done so.

If anyone needs any sort of graphic or web design, give me a call. I'll upload the patch sheets to the Group some time this weekend.

Is CZ1 sysex intercompatible with the CZ1000/CZ101?

I think so, but of course CZ-1-only data like patch name, line volume and velocity will get lost in the transfer.

Re: [CZsynth] Re: Mellotron

2004-06-26 by Simon Beck

I've now uploaded four of my best CZ patches as <spits> Adobe Acrobat PDF files. They are:

1. Mellotron Strings
2. Casioflute
3. Grand Piano
4. Vibraslap.

I also uploaded the MS <spits again> Excel template that I used to generate the files.

I have lots more patches here - suggest a few and I may have something...

Simon

Well, sort of...
the common parameters, yes.
I don't know how it's handled in CZ1000/3000 but
in CZ-1 there are two lines, and my bass patch uses
1+1'. I don't know if it's a valid combination on 1000/3000.
If yes just tell me which format is preferred and I'll upload the patch.

Re: [CZsynth] Re: Mellotron

2004-06-26 by Simon Beck

It's identical. I use my CZ-101 patches unmodified on my CZ1 and they sound exactly the same. 1+1' is definitely a valid combination on all CZ synths. The difference between the 101/1000 and the 3000/5000/1 is at a polyphony, not a voice structure level - the 101 and 1000 have 4 two-line voices or 8 one-line voices and the other models have twice that. Each line is, however identical with two waveforms, three 8-stage envelopes, and octave, detune, vibrato, ring mod and noise mod shared between lines 1 and 2 or 1 and 1'.

wow, that's interesting. I read through the Hall of Electric Pianos site
some time ago and enjoyed it quite a lot.

This list seems to attract the nerdy types who enjoy researching rare
equipment (me included).

CZ sysex

2004-06-29 by steve_the_composer

Basically, yes; but it depends what you want to do. If you want to
load CZ-101/1000/3000/5000 sysex patch data into a CZ-1, yes.

CZ polyphony

2004-06-29 by steve_the_composer

addendum: So far as I recall, the CZ-5000 (possibly the CZ-3000)
synth engine can handle 16-note one-oscilator polyphony from the
local keyboard, but only 8-note polyphony via midi.

Does it also work the other way around? i.e. Can I load CZ-1 / CZ-
5000 patches into my CZ-1000?

CZ-5000 --> CZ-1000, yes.
CZ-1 --> CZ-1000, I think so, though patch name and velocity settings
mean nothing to the CZ-1000.

Mellotron

2004-06-30 by Bastiaan van de Werk

Simon, thanks for those patches...I just printed them out and I try and
recreated them tonight at home on my trusty lil' ol' CZ101.
