Hello CZ fans,

I'd like to put in twice my two cents worth.

1.
> Is CZ1 sysex intercompatible with the CZ1000/CZ101?

Basically, yes. however, if you have a CZ-1 data format, it will not be
reognized by the other synths, as it is 32 bytes longer (the file name) and
has another id in its file header. OTOH, you could use a program like my
Twea-CZ, who interacts with all CZs and will send the appropriate data.

2.

to VZ, as opposed to trying to convert from CZ to VZ.

IMHO it is not possible either way, if you expect the sounds sound the same
on both machines.
As for the CZ-VZ transfer, both machines have completely different wave
forms, and the VZ as eight DCOs where the CZ has only two.
As for the VZ-DX transfer, the DX uses sine waves and 'algorithms' where the
VZ uses different wave forms and a rudimentary implementation of the
algorithmn idea.
At best, it would be an approximation IMHO, but could yield interesting
sounds.

All the best, Hellmuth

Nope, it's about the same... sine and the additional VZ waveforms are not perfect
but suitable to simulate feedback...

You can recreate most DX7 algorithms with the VZ-1 even some more...
Check my tutorial...

Sure, it's like converting a sound between subtractive synths...
