Another CZ question

Another CZ question

2004-12-11 by P........

I wonder if it's possible to somehow replace some cz101's sound chips
with those of a CZ 5000 to get the additional waveforms and velocity?
I know that sounds kind of silly, but I'd like to customize my CZ101
to have the features of a cz5000 and keeping it small.

As far as I know (which I don't really but it's a good guess), the CZ-101
and CZ-5000 use the same sound chips, the CZ-5000 just has twice as many for
double polyphony. It's the controlling electronics that are different.
Modifying that would require you to put the guts of a CZ-5000 into the case
of a 101. I really doubt the results of that would be "small".

Additional waveforms? There aren't any. Oh, and the 5000 doesn't have velocity - only the CZ-1. I know - I had a 101 that died, and I replaced it with a CZ-1. The sound capability is identical on both; the polyphony (in each mode) is doubled. The Mod wheel simply adds a variable depth controller to the existing Vibrato, and after-touch can only be routed to volume or vibrato. Velocity is more versatile, but is still really just an extra function added to each of the envelopes. The most important feature of the CZ-1/3000/5000 over the 101/1000 is undoubtedly the sustain pedal input. Now if you could add THAT to a 101...
