help. .. is my VZ broken?

help. .. is my VZ broken?

2005-02-24 by rrooyyccee

hi list,
i plugged in my new old vz 10m. it was working fine, until i tried
switching to the rom card. i may have accidently pulled out the card
while the machine was on. in fact, i'm sure i did. does that damage
anything?

anyhow, now my vz only plays one note,no matter what key a press, but
this one note goes up and down in pitch in a very slow sine wave
pattern.

what is wrong? is there a way to reset the vz?

Should be similar to the CZ-1, holding initialize while turning it on and
pressing yes afterwards. If not, hopefully someone else can help...

It's generally a very bad idea but I think it doesn't usually result in
damage. It's definately possible, for instance, to kill a PCI card by
removing it while it's on (though I've even intentionally done things like
that and ever seen any damage result from it) but I don't know if that would
apply to ROM cards. I would imagine things should be okay after a an
initialize procedure.

There's probably a reset procedure detailed in the manual. Or in the
service manual. I don't really have the time to check right now.

Can you give any more details (well if you fix the problem it's kind of
irrelevant..)? Is the display showing anything? can patches be changed (at
least visually, on the display), are LEDs illuminating normally, etc?

Did you also try pressing the MIDI CLEAR button on the front pannel
of your VZ10m?

Hi list,
thanks for the help. It turns out that somehow Portamento was set to
maximum. I believe that this was a glitch induced by pulling out the
data card during an operation. Wont' do that again. Anyhow, the vz10m
is now working gloriously well, and is working perfectly with unisyn.
This is in distinction to my vz8m, which i bought and sold after
discovering its relationship with unisyn was not good at all.

so far my impressions of the synth are really great. i do wish that
it's higher and lower frequency response were better, my sense is that
its frequency response is something like 300 - 10khz. however,
envelopes sound great, even simple square shaped "beep" envelopes.
heavily ring modulated patches are impressive, especially when they
are not overly distorted and harsh. . . kind of modular synth sounding.
