What do you own.......

What do you own.......

2006-05-04 by memtechlist

hello you Crazioheadz.... i bought my first casios almost the very same
year they were released: MT-41/1983, CZ-1000&5000/1985 and SK-1/1986

some years ago i discovered the sea of casio-keyboards (and other small
homekeyboards as well) on eBAY and started out collecting them tracking
them down mostly in Germany,UK and US ..Sweden is a f***ing desert when
it comes to these lovely casiotones from the begin of 80's, just ugly
looking plastic shit CTK and Lightkey models around in secondhands....

don't fall of your chairs now, i do not understand why i tell you what
i've got in my casio-chamber...but anyway here's my list.....

2xVL-tone-1,VL-tone-5, PT-1,2xPT-20,PT-22,PT-30(incl.TA-1 cassette
storage interface),PT-100,MT-11,20,21,30,31,41,52,55,2x60,65,68,70,
520, GZ-5......phew!.... well ok... i will keep on going........
Casiotone 2x201,2x401,2x403,405,501,3x701,1000P and finally the
fantastic Casiotone 7000 ...that's it for now but i will keep on buying
until every damn corner of my apartment is filled with them :)

what i'm hunting right now: Casiotones:101,202,320,410V,430,610,620,
701(velvet black),6000,6500,8000(Symphonytron 8000),M-10,VL-10,
PT-7,PT-31,PT-50,MT-400V,SK-1,5,200

cheers you all, see you in casiotone-hell ;)

/kent in sweden

Great, I "only" have 15 or so small/crappy keyboards (casio, yamaha,
bontempi, v-tech, yongmei..) piled up in my room.

Congrats on the PT-30, MT-60, CT1000P and other cool/rare models.

I'm afraid though that I'm going to have to bug you about some of those
models, some of them I've long wondered about but never gotten any
satisfactory information- how similar is the 1000P to the 701? And how
similar are the other super sexy fullsize woodgrain models to the smaller MT
keyboards? Is the MT-60 way cooler than the MT-68 (aside from just looks)?
And what about the 7000? It looks awesome but I've never really heard a
good description...

You should have good luck on US ebay with the 202 and 8000, when I see them
pop up (which is not often but occasionally) they tend to not go for very
much, though shipping might be a lot.

(I would also suggest looking into the HT series and maybe a VA-10)

hi Scott (and everyone), what keyboards do you own then, Scott ?

i managed to buy one of the most sought after (for me) keyboards this night, CT-620, last one before changing into PCM-drums (CT-630)

i see often PT-30's on ebay, MT-60 is quite rare and Casiotone 1000P as well.

sound of 1000P and 701 is very similar using same sound-engine i think. 1000P is programable (huge limits of course) while 701 is not. there are no rhythms/accomp in 1000P but there is a crazy advanced arpeggiator which can be used as a sequencer, no external syncinterface built in but there was a time when a company did build an sync interface so that you could hook 1000P up to an Boss DR-55 rhythmmachine.

MT-60 are a "black lamb" indeed, looks like MT-45/46/65/68 but the soundengine is more like Casiotone 403, accompaniment in MT-60 differs also from other models..... MT-60 is one of the strangest Casios around! and ohh...there is one up now on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.de/Keyboard-Casio-Casiotone-MT-60_W0QQitemZ7412443796QQcategoryZ47035QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

the mighty Casiotone 7000 was one of the biggest and most advanced back in 1983/84 with 2 track melody sequencer, accomp sequencer, sounds is analoguish thank lord! not this typical primitive additive sound-engine as in MT-70, Casiotone 501,601,701 and 1000P

yes i have those HS and VA on my list too, but these later models is not prior on my want-list, although if i see and HS-6000 cheap i will grab it instantly of course!! ;=)

>hi Scott (and everyone), what keyboards do you own then, Scott ?

Casio MT-68, PT-80, SK-1, SK-8 (previously owned an SK-5), SA-5
(circuit-bent), VA-10, HT-6000, Yamaha VSS-200, PSS-570, PSS-130, PCS-30,
Yongmei YM-250A, Bontempi T100 (I don't know actually, the name tag is
missing). And some other stuff but that covers the good ones.

And the "higher-quality" stuff: Ensoniq EPS, ESQ-M, Yamaha RX5, RY30, Casio
VZ-10M, Dave Smith Instruments Evolver, etc.

Also of interest, I have a Keytek CTS-2000 (very obscure Italian synth,
doesn't sound very good though).

The HT series might be more exciting than you expect: Basically they use the
same style of single-cycle waveform style synthesis as the older models
(MT-68, etc.) but they're programmable (waveform, ADSR envelopes, LFO for
vibrato..) and have a VCF. The auto-accompanyment isn't as good as older
models and the drums are PCM but there's a really bad-sounding orchestra hit
sample.

Has anyone heard of the Casio MT-400V? That was an awesome keyboard and I
have a ton of sound samples if anyone is interested.

Casiotone 7000 has analog drums yes! sounds is quite the same as in MT-68 but less envelope possibilities

yes i'm familiar with the HT-series functions, but how does this "single-cycle waveform" really work ? is it a sampled waveform looped or is it some kind of analog ?

Hi. I just upload the demo. This was 20+ years ago, and I wasn't the one
playing or arranging the song, so hold off with the tomatoes. :) It get
real repetitive, but there's some good variations in there. I'll try to
slice another sample that's a little better and send it along. Enjoy.

slice another sample that's a little better and send it along. Enjoy.

Re: SV: Re: Re: SV: RE: [CZsynth] What do you own....... (MT400V)

2006-05-10 by ed

How many MT-400V's are out there?
I understand that they're pretty rare and that there is a full-size
keyboard version in the MT series too, which is impossible to get. I
have two 400V's - one has a cracked PCB and neither have speakers.
Awesome drums and filters.

As I understand it, it's not really samples or analog- just very primitive
16-step digital waveforms. They're played at a high sample rate so there's
no audible aliasing. But obviously they're not very pure waveforms- the
triangle wave on the HT series has a lot of overtones so it really doesn't
sound much like a triangle wave. I think it sounds really good this way.
Also there's some kind of waveform crossfading (as you can hear on the
MT-68's "cosmic tone" sound, for example) but this isn't editable in the HT
series.

I think most Casio models (except MT-70, MT-35, CZ, VL, PT, etc.) used this
until the sample-based stuff came out.

Re: SV: RE: SV: RE: [CZsynth] What do you own.......

2006-05-10 by Simon Beck

The early CT and MT series used static waveforms (as described below) with an amplitude envelope. Each voice (the keyboards tended to be 8-voice instruments) had two different waveforms, each with its own envelope. This allowed more interesting sounds to be produced. Later models even featured detuned waveforms and repeating envelopes. The 1000P and its ilk used additive synthesis which produced a more organ-like (and boring) sound than the earlier models.

All of this talk reminds me of a Casio I once owned. It was a digital
clock, calculator, stop-watch combo. It also played tones--8 note
octave plus one or two steps above and/or below.

Do you remember the model designation? I had something like this when
I was a kid, and I've actually been looking for one... they had a
really interesting, lo-fi sound. Plus they'd lend themselves well to
circuit-bending.

could it been a VL-tone 1 ? but that one did not have stop-watch or clock, just calculator.... maybe it's the very unusual VL-80? http://www.miniorgan.com/lib/view.php?miniorgan=2&srch=&srch_type=&sortby=5&output=7

  cheers....

Re: What do you own.......

2006-05-13 by steve_the_composer

I found an e-bay listing for an ad that shows the unit I had. I did a
google search for Casio ML calculator. The e-bay listing refers to
the ML-81, but I don't think that is the one I had. The one I had
looks more like the upper of the two pictured.

Try this link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1980-Casio-ML-81-Calculator-Vintage-
Ad_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ13586QQitemZ7125799277QQrdZ1

If that doesn't work, try Item # 7125799277

If that doesn't work, try searching e-bay for 1980 Casio ML-81
Calculator Vintage Ad.

Last I heard, for non-commericial use midi-ox was free. With it, you
can edit any sysex.

Re: What do you own.......

2006-05-26 by Laurent Lacroix

Hi all,

I started in 1991 with a CZ-101 that I fastly sold to buy a CZ-5000
with a real 5 octaves keyboard. I replaced it in 1998 by a CZ-1 that
I always own. I had a FZ-1 between 1992 and 1994, easy to use but the
only 2 mega ram was a problem for me and I bought a S1000 and then a
S1100.

I like my CZ-1 and the PD sound, between FM and analog...
