Convert a DX7 patch to VZ1

Convert a DX7 patch to VZ1

2006-09-16 by agilelach

Does anyone have a doc or a program to take a DX7 (FM) patch and make
something useful out of it for VZ1 (iPD)? I was thinking about
writing a script to do that, but before I do, I'd like to see if there
is something like that already.

Hi. I don't think or maybe I don't know if there is such a program to
convert a DX7 patch into a VZ patch however you can approximate any
DX7 patch to how it would sound and apply them to a VZ1 (may require
skills of tweaking, progaming and studying the sounds themselves). If
you like hear some sounds that are close to being simular to a DX7,
feel free to download the VZ sounds I created like the Grandpiano, DX7
slap bass, and a bunch of other sounds. Click on Files, VZ-sound and
then Cliffs-Vol-1 in sys.ex... Hope this helps out a little.

I started a tutorial, it's part of the files section of this list...

THanks. I'll look in the files section. The thought is that there are
a lot of patches available for the DX stuff that should be convertible
to the VZ (I have, and like both)

My guess is that the main problem will be the translation of the
algorithms, especially due to the frequency restrictions. Another
problem could be the DX7 Operator Feedback that can be replaced with
static operator waveforms of the VZ-1 only, what can change the
character of some sounds...
The rest, like creating a Operator modulation amount, Envelope
translation and LFO tables, might be only quite a bit of work... ;)
