ATTN Narfman: CZ-1 Patches Spotted On Ebay!

ATTN Narfman: CZ-1 Patches Spotted On Ebay!

2007-04-16 by Fulfil Objective

So I was looking at an ebay auction for a CZ-1, and one of the photos
showed the LCD in operation. It looked immediately familiar, because
it displayed a patch I had used before. Not just similar, but exactly
the same. The LCD read "CZ1 FM NasalSwep" and was in memory location
H-8. That comes from the first of Narfman's sysex dumps, I think,
since all of his patch names start with "CZ1".

So there's some more evidence that the patches are used and appreciated!

Aaahhhh I'm blushing. You have a sharp eye catching this one. I haven't
been following the CZ-1's on Ebay in a while. I just went out in this
huge Nor'easter blow we're having and picked up a TG500 240volt from
Ebay that was only $70.00 'cause nobody else bid on it here in the
states. Bad day to drive through the ski areas of New England.

Right now I'm working on several banks for the Korg Poly-800 II and for
the obscure Peavey DPM Spectrum Synth (a rompler with portamento and
all analog waveforms.) Once I get this TG500 powered with a converter
I'll try my hand at one of Yamaha's best synth's from the 90's.

Don't worry even though I mentioned the "K", "P", and "Y" words my CZ-1
still blows them away for its unique envelopes and raw energy.

CZ's forever, Fran

I don't even know what a TG-500 is without looking it up. So I looked
it up. I'm not allowed to look at other makers of synthesizers
because there are so many great things out there, and I would end up
wanting to buy them all.

I went through the Casio CZ-1 Sysex implementation recently, as part
of my effort to rearrange existing patch dumps. I have this crazy
idea that I can convert the sysex data into XML data, edit the XML
data, and then convert it back to sysex data. Essentially, this would
mean being able to write a patch as easily as you can write a text
file, and then have a small application convert it to a sysex message.
I think it's possible, but we'll have to see if I'm dedicated enough
to the project. I won't be able to work on it for at least a few
weeks, because I have to do money work & other projects.

Hey Mike,

If there's any way I can help please let me know. I enjoyed helping
Matt Gregory debug his TX81Z editor. I have about every Windoze
operating system from 3.1 to XP-SP2 and a couple of older Macs.

Don't look up the TX81Z and get in trouble son. I'm telling you
this so you don't wind up like me. I have a terminal case of GAS! It
keeps me sane but keeps me insane a true paradox. Isn't this a
definition for insanity? Oh well, at least I take the time to restore
and learn how to write patches on each one. I've got on of those jobs
that can be a known killer from stress so it really helps.

I contacted that seller on Ebay even though I probably shouldn't
have in today's web climate. I asked if he'd gotten to audition these
patches...

I thought it was PCM machine only.. . . But i don't over look other
Yamaha's, TX81Z was my only synth for a while at the beginning and i
learned to get pretty much out of it.. . .
Powerfull subbasses most wierd noises and even acidic noises which moved
completely different sounds when using different volume levels. I love
that machine.

Was SY77/99 made at made at ninetees? How about FS1R?

As we are on casio forum i have to mention something about those too.
It's nice that some of you keep doint 3rd party accessories to this
beautys.. keep that going! I personally have tried CZ1000 and 5000 once,
but ended to buy HS2 and VZ8M.
Hard to program but good sound sources anyhow.

Ja,

Both the Peavey and the Yammie are only PCM romplers but they have
great filters and mod assignments. I have some banks I made up for
the TX81Z that I can share. I was lucky enough to get one with the
TZQuad option so it has 4 times the storage of the stock TX box.

I someday hope to find a Casio VZ in need of some TLC and look
forward to being able to mess around with the top of the line PD and
all the extra features Casio built into these.
