Casio CZ-1... 16-note polyphonic!??!

Casio CZ-1... 16-note polyphonic!??!

2008-06-28 by mirfederico

Hello! First of all, 16-note polyphonic means that I can play 16 keys
at the same time (if I had 16 fingers obviously... lol) and all they
would suond!?
I have a CZ-1 and if my concept about 16-note polyphonic is correct my
Synth isn`t working fine... In the manual says that 16-note polyphonic
is possible if I choose line 1 or line 2, 8-note polyphonic choosing 2
lines, 4-note polyphonic in tone mix mode and monophonic in solo mode.
My problem is: I play any preset tone and choose line 1 only or line 2
only and I can play 8 notes at the same time...
Is it normal?! Am I wrong with my concept about 16-note polyphonic!? Is
my Synth maybe damage?!
Is it possible to play 16 notes at the same time with a CZ-1!?
Sorry about my ignorance with this stuff, I love my CZ-1, but I am very
new in synths

Thanks for your time!!!

SV: [CZsynth] Casio CZ-1... 16-note polyphonic!??!

the CZ-1 is 16 voice polyphonic if you choose just to use one of the single lines 1 or 2, if you choose to combine those to lines in a patch '1+2' you're using both oscillator lines at the same time and the CZ-1 will become 8 note polyphonic. in mix tone mode: let's you have an patch written into memory that uses just one of the lines with another patch also using just one line the CZ-1 will become 8 note polyphonic naturally, if you use 2 patches in mix mode that uses both osc lines 1+2 CZ-1 are using 4 oscillators and will become 4 note polyphonic.....

and oh.... 16 note polyphonics does not have anything to do with how many fingers you've got..... you will proably find out why it is so important with larger amount of polyphony.

if a patch is written into memory with line 1+2 you can change it into 1 or 2 solo and your CZ-1 must be 16 note polyphonic because you turn one of the lines/oscillator off.

how do you make the test when you're telling us that it is still 8 note polyphonic in solo line 1 or 2 ?

hope this helps.....

/k

It's rather the Keyboard that isn't even be able to send another note
via MIDI when 8 keys already been held. But if I remember correctly,
since I tested it a long time ago, you can hear more than 8 voices
when playing single DCO sounds with a long release...

I extensively tested the CZ-5000. The only way to get 16-note
polyphony was from the keyboard was using a patch with only DCO line.
I seem to recall with keysplit, you could have 8-note polyphony in
each half this way (or 4 in the left hand and 8 in the right hand if
you wanted. My gut says this did not work via incoming midi.

As for outgoing MIDI, the keyboard (and sequencer) could send out midi
note on events for as many notes as you could play. To test some
assembly language code I developed for the Commodore-64, I took a
broom handle and quickly jabbed as many keys at once as it would
cover. (That's how I knew my MIDI I/O routine worked.)

I thought with some variations, the CZ-1's polyphony was the same,
though I did not test it like I did the 5000.
