FZ20m - - Mac

2010-11-01 by joncz1000

Hello,

I just bought an FZ-20m. I got the disk drive working with a bit of cleaning, but don't want to rely on it.
I can't seem to find a MIDI Sample Dump program for my old iBook.
Does anyone know of any software for Mac so I can sample dump vie MIDI to/from my FZ-20m?

Thanks in advance.
Jon

It should be possible to exchange samples as a sysex dump

I think you can use a simple midi-sequenser for recording midi sample-dumps.

you can try to find a freeware/ shareware mac sequenser on internet!

I don't know how far back you have to go.

OS 9: Bias Peak will work but you have to find an old copy. Turbosynth works on OS 9, but I don't remember if it transfers samples or not.

System 7: Sound Designer or Sound Designer II I think there's aversion where you don't need the hardware card, Alchemy, and maybe Turbosynth.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some apps. Overall I believe you'll have more choices with System 7.

Wow! I had no idea this group was so active!
Thanks for all the advice and sorry for such a "noob"-type question.

I'm running OSX 10.3, but I suppose I could run OS9 software in Classic and it would still communicate with my midi interface. From basic google searches, I'm not turning up anything that would seem to do the trick for OSX. What have I missed Zoolguy?

Can a sequencer like Logic really handle midi sample dump type sysex files?

Thanks,
Jon

it's very easy to use a sequenser, performer, digital performer, LOGIC Pro, Cubase, and more..... for sample-dumps:

first you need MIDI-connections from the computer-midi-out to the sampler/synthesizer mids-in. and a cable from the sampler/synthesizer midi-out to the computer-midi-interface in.

startup your sequenser, and make a recording-track for your sampler/synthesizer. set the tempo not to slow, and not to fast. something like 100 BPM. don't change this anymore after the recording.

push the record-button of the sequenser, wait some bars, and tell the sampler/synthesizer to do a midi-sample-dump (send).

when finished, you can check your track if there is a lot of data recorded.
than you can set the sampler/synthesizer to receive a sample-dump, and push the play-button of your sequenser..wait..till ready!

this also works for sysex-dumps...

easy! :-)

Hi Jon !

On OS X 10.3.9 you can use Sysex_Librarian.
It's freeware to be found on the net.
I tried it on a Kawai K1, it worked well.
I don't think midi communication will work in Classic.
Best regards
Cornelius

sd2 works great but you need system 7 i have a copy of 1.1 and 1.5 which did not need a card installed i use it with soundtool which is the first sound card made by digidesign

awave can take soundfonts and make fz1 dump image files see if they do a mac version

if you need samples doing give me a shout i can dump them to my fz1 and can put them on floppy
