ROM and RAM cartridges

2011-05-28 by wjamesmeagher

Shot in the dark question here . . . is it possible to use ROM cartridges for the CZ1 to store your own patches by erasing whatever sounds originally came on the ROM cartridge, or can you only store your own stuff on RAM cartridges?

Cheers,
James

ROM == "Read Only Memory", so no. EPROMs can be erased by placing them
under a strong UV source (leaving them on a sunny windowsill doesn't
work, and leaving them outside just means they get blown off the
windowsill into the grass where they're hard to find - they still don't
get erased). You could make your own ROM cartridges by blowing an EPROM
with the right data. pretty much whatever's stored in a RAM cartridge.

The RAM cartridge circuits are out there, so it may be possible to
remove the ROM from a ROM cartridge, replace it with a RAM chip (they
have similar pin layouts) and adapt the rest of the circuit to suit.
