Everywhere I read about CZ synths, I run into links to this site, but whenever I attempt to use the links I'm asked for a username and password . . . am I missing something, or does anyone know how to go about acquiring a username and password?

Thanks,
James

I would assume since you can post messages, you are already a member. What links don''t seem to work?

Ha, ha . . . Sorry, I only put the name of the site I was referring to in
the subject line of that message post. It's *cosmosynthesizer.de that I'm
referring to. Every site about CZ synthesizers has links to this site - but
however I try I can't access the site. *

Steve, I am pretty sure that James isn't talking about the Links section of this Yahoo! Group... he's referring to "links" (that he has run across on the Interwebs when searching for CZ stuff) that refer to the site http://www.cosmosynthesizer.de. If you attempt to visit that site, you are always prompted for a password.

Anyway, it sounds like an interesting site, does anybody know why a password is required, or how to get one?

Hi Mario - shame ... was a great site and source for all things CZ and more. It
would be helpful to all of the CZ forum to be able to tap into your wealth of
info still as per your kind offer.
I guess a starting point for a lot of us who are nuts still about the CZ (I've
the CZ-1) are the Patch files if you could send a link to this stuff or offer PM
email 'service'! cheers Richard

I have used your site I believe - I am now collecting manuals for Yamaha and Casio - I have quite a few online at templarseries.atspace.com/synths.html (site seems to be playing up too) which are stored on media fire...so I can use any obscure manuals...

Howdy,

Yes! I've got a CZ-1 and a pair of CZ-101s. I've done the 101 mod that lets you access all 32 slot on the voice cartridge. Highly recommended. If my cartridges still have their data, I'd be glas to upload the patches I have, (have to figure out how). I remember one in particular when Electronic Musician magazine had "patch of the month" for CZs & DXs, a "log drum" patch was given. A very cool CZ patch.

Even though I no longer own a CZ (I had a 101 for about 10 years, followed by a CZ-1 for about 3 or 4), I have, SOMEWHERE, a ring-binder full of my own CZ patches written out on photocopied sheets. These include:

Strings:
Mellotron (with 8-second cutoff)
"Wall of sound" strings
Cello
Casio Strings (based on CT-202 Viola preset)

Brass:
Crescendo Brass
Trombone
French horn

Woodwind:
Raunchy sax
"Paul Desmond" sax
Oboe
Baroque oboe
Funk flute
Melloton flutes

Plucked string:
Acoustic guitar
Clean electric guitar
Metal guitar with feedback
Banjo
Sitar (long release)
Pedal steel (fantastic using layer mode on the CZ-101)

Synth:
Minimoog lead
Warm bass
Choir
Solo voice (soprano)

Keyboard:
Wurlitzer piano
Casio Organ (based on CT-202 Pipe Organ 2 preset)
Harpsichord with release click
Glockenspiel
Grand piano (pretty good in the bass, plinky in mid-range and unusable in treble)
Vox Continental organ
Indian harmonium
Hohner Pianet T (based on a real one)

Percussion:
Vibraslap
Timbale
Bongos

and more.

I can't be bothered to scan these. Maybe I should just sell the whole lot (on Ebay?) to anyone who wants them, along with the right to distribute them.

cosmosynthesizer.de - online again!/ http://cosmosynthesizer.info.ms

2011-05-24 by Mario Neitzke

good News, Boys!

just finally managed to upload the whole site again.
but, of course, the adress changed to:

http://cosmosynthesizer.info.ms

still testing, maybe a few links are buggy. will fix it later.
but the Manuals and syx-Sounds are all online (just like in 2009)

PS: forget www.cosmosynthesizer.de - > the domain is still intact but
NOT MINE!

Thank you so much. I just got my first CZ (CZ1), and am digging into its
capabilities with great excitement. One of the things that excited me so
much about the CZ series was the incredible online community that still
eagerly supports them. Everywhere I went on the web I kept coming across
links to your site and descriptions of all the wonderful resources that were
there - it was a real bummer to find out it was gone!

I'm already on the new URL and everything seems to be up and running
perfectly. Thank you for taking the time to put this up again. I think I'm
going to be up *very* late tonight! (and it's only 11am here in Canada now!)

Cheers,
James

well don't expect tooooooo much cos nothing has changed since 2009 :-)
maybe I'll upload some more manuals later; have to check my archives on DVD.

btw: anyone intersted in the Casio SS-1 Sticks or DP-1 Drumsticks or the MB-1 upgrade for the FZ-1? guess I still have some in stock.
just let me know. I would prefer if someone REALLY wants them...

On top of being happy to purchase these, I'd also put in the time to scan
them all into PDF's and upload the files to the CZsynth group for everyone
to have access to.

Howdy,

Are you the fella that sold a CD-ROM full of CZ sounds a few years back? If so, I've still got mine. Never even took it out of the sleeve yet. I'm yet to put a computer in my muzik room. Then to find a program or what ever it takes to dump some sounds into one of the CZs. I remember raving about a mellotron sound and the seller cautioning me about "This is a CZ, it sounds similar to a mellotron, but don't expect an exact replica". Understandably so, i still want to slide it in to a drive slot and hear what kinds of sounds it has. As I recall, there were a couple hundred.

No, it's not me. Like I said - my sounds only exist on paper (and on a CZ if somebody can be bothered to program it!). But I used many of these sounds from 1985 to about 2004 (on and off) in cover bands, jam sessions, my own and other people's home recordings and even a 12" EP as half an electro-pop duo called "Mix It Up". They may not be particularly realistic sounds compared with modern samples, but they make the most of the Casio's amazingly versatile architecture, and they offer a range of largely imitative sounds from a time when most people were going for more abstract patches.

scan them and send them in , by the way any synth has ability to sound like
mellotron
its all about what the user plays and puts into it ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrXtmKGkSa4
well at least the instrumnent parts not the programmed section

Re: [CZsynth] Re: cosmosynthesizer.de

2011-05-25 by Daniel Forró

I don't think so. Mellotron used processed, compressed, EQed samples
of real instruments, with limited range, add random drop-outs or
frequency and timbre inaccuracies - it's not so easy to emulate on
analog or digital synths. It's possible with samplers, synthesizers
with ROM samples, or RAM for sample import.

Way of playing is also important and has it's specialties on
mellotron sounds (for example with strings sound - wide voicing,
legato play, notes not longer than 7 or 8 seconds...).

Cheers,
James

Howdy,

Yes, now if we could find some young wiz that can show us how to modify those pesky up/down buttons with a slider or rotary pot. If i had a schematic, I'd be temted to try it myself. It sure would makke programming a lot smoother and easier.

Do you think it would be possible to upload them to a central location on
the web - like the *files* section of this User Group? (Granted you have
permission to distribute them . . . if this is even needed . . . I've never
really understood how that works with patches.)

Or if you want to send me a copy of the disc I'd be happy to do the work
taking the files off the disc and then uploading them into the User Group
files . . . or I'd also be happy to take on job of making numerous disc
copies for interested users because I have equipment that burns multiple
discs at a time.

Let me know if any of this is a help.

Cheers,
James

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
