Hi all,

Is a HT3000 worth buying off UK ebay for £60?

Well. It's hard to say but the HT3000 is a true gem if you like sizzly digital synths. I like mine so much I also purchased a HT6000, but the HT3000 is - for some reason - my favorite of the two.

I have an HT-6000 and quite like it. There's an HT-3000 review on Vintage Synth Explorer.

I have a HT-700 and a HT-3000 that I take camping with me. The smaller HT-700 in a waterproof case usually. It has a decent filter sound and can be circuit bent for cutoff and resonance pots. Some say it sounds better than a Korg Poly-800. The 6 "D" sized batteries last for a good long time too.

I think you mean this one?

I've seen them go for half of the price you mention, though interest is
growing so maybe prices are on the up. Put it this way, you won't get any
other single DCO analogue synth for 60!

I have the 3000 - which is basically a HT700 with big keys - a modulation control and a few other dings. The 6000 is sought after because of the separate triggers for the VCF - instead of one that retriggers as it does on the HT700/3000. Is the 3000 worth £60. Not to me - but if you want analogue filtering of DCO sounds - then yes.

The Casio HT range are ANALOGUE, not digital! ;-) The oscillator(s) is/ are
digitally controlled (for stable tuning), the sound generation is pure
analogue as are the filters!

Like you, I found my HT 700 to be sort of more characterful than my HT
6000. I think the presets on the HT 6000 make it sound more like FM
synthesis, too clean sounding, rather than analogue. Weird how the CZ range
is supposed to have ripped of Yamaha's FM, yet the CZ's can sound WAY more
like analogue, and the structure of building the CZ waveforms is based on
subtractive analogue style synthesis. Maybe having individual filters per
note played somehow detracts from the analogue feel on the HT 6000?I can't
remember if my Roland JX3P does the same or not with its filter.

I also like the HT 700 because it's nice and compact, is always there and
easy to access and sounds sweet. Like my big CZ-1, my HT 6000 is stored
away in another room because of its size. My HT 700 and CZ 101 sit side by
side next to my computer! The HT 700/ 3000 are no MiniMoog/ ARP Odyssey,
nor as lush as something like a Juno 60, but they do have a character of
their own. I am very tempted to modify mine as per the videos in my other
post to get the resonance really going for it and sending the filter into
self oscillation!
