Ah!!!, I forgot to say that trought MIDI all notes play OK

it could be a bad diode on the keyboard circuit and it could be a higher note key

if you use a chromatic tuner it could tell you what key is held by its notation so you have a better idea whay key it is

i would remove the keybed and remove all keys for inspection of the key contact boards

i dont have a cz1 so cant comment on what type but if its the common bubble contacts they can become stuck if the key was removed and not put back properly and its held on note on

but after removing all keys and you just press the bubble contacts for each key note and you are still getting the problem

then i would look to testing the diodes is there a bank of keys that dont sound but triggers the same note as there done in banks of octaves

has the cz1 the same keyboard as the fz1

i have 2 cz101 and they have those crappy little keyboards

where the cz1 has a aftertouch keyboard

if its playing ok by midi then its not the machine at fault it will be the keybed problem

Is the "KEY TRANSPOSE" button turned on? (Just left of vol slider)

Not sure if the affects MIDI notes, but will definitely be changing keyboard notes if turned on.

See p.6 in the Operation Manual.

Note that "MASTER TUNE" and the line "DETUNE" and "OCTAVE" controls will affect the pitch, but MIDI would respond the same if these were set.

JPS

my first guess is similar to jammie's ,,, theres some possibility
there is a piched and now shorting out cable on the keypad .

good luck

Not too much information to make a diagnosis from it.

- How did it start?
- Only one key or any key?
- Which key?
- I more keys are out of tune, is there some pattern in it? Like the same key in each octave, or every fourth or so?
- The sound is always the same pitch or changing randomly?
- Which pitch is it, how high?
- Is it in the same timbre as other keys playing normally, or some different timbre?
- Is it the same on all sounds (memories)?
- Is it the same with preset memories?
- Does all the other functions and parameters on synthesizer work?
- Have you tried initialization function?
- Are you sure power supply is OK and all voltages on spec? Have you done recapping?

There can be more questions...

I was going to mention what I had noted on the CZ 1000 - when switched off without any power backup the pitch defaults to a high pitch as the pitch bender data (I think) is corrupted - the result is similar symptoms to those described here for the CZ1 - rolling the bender (I think)
or carrying out the reset procedure puts it all correct.
Whether or not it is relevant to this problem,it's a tad odd that the unit does not default to a playable state. I presume there is a CR2032 hanging about in there with no juice left as the 101 doesn't do this, unless it has non-corruptable memory?

The initialization procedure is the first port of call I think.
