New Member Intro, 1 June 2014

Hi, all.

Have had a CZ-101 in my home studio for about a decade, and I love it (though my programming skills are rudimentary at best). Had never actually heard of the VZ-1 until yesterday, when I was deliriously excited to find one at a thrift store. Now I have to learn how it works and what it can do...

Have used the CZ in post-rock and electronic-pop contexts and am hoping to use the VZ in soundtrack/experimental projects as well.

The original VZ-1 presets are not really good but in the freely downloadable banks (that can find on internet) there are patches really great for this synth, i have one and will never sell it :)

Wellcome to the familiy Jon!
VZ-1 Is not the same as the CZ series but powerfull and distintive synthesizer if you learn how to take the best of this black bird.
Programming a CZ is much easier than VZ by far and the sound is not the same but here you have a place for consulting and learning.

I bet you were very suprised to see a casio vz1 for the first time and while it's been 25 years ago. Anyway it takes a lot of time and patients to really program new sounds. Not as user friendly as the CZ's but once you know all that and all the basics, the potential is endless and could be the best synth you've ever had.

Presumably by 'lots of patients' - you mean people end up in the hospital after trying to program a VZ?
Patience is a virtue...patients are something else....! ;-)

Ahahaha, good answer. Yes, sometimes, after a whole night passed on these synths, we need relief in a padded cell  ;-D
