Casio FZ / Hohner HS-1/E Sounds

Casio FZ / Hohner HS-1/E Sounds

2015-01-10 by Cornelius Schöler

Hello !

just got back my Hohner HS-1/E Sampler from servicing.
Floppy drive was cleaned but still isn't always working correctly.
Sometimes loads a disk, then don't.
Replacement seems to be quite complicated.

I wanted to ask if anyone would like to exchange sounds on floppy disks for the machine ?
I got quite a few disks when I bought the sampler
and am interested in old sounds. (e.g. strings, bassoon, clarinet, drums)

I hope copying disks will work now, haven't tried yet.

Best regards
Moto

floppy disks have a life of about 5 years before becoming bad its always good to make back ups and why fz1 bank transfers are great as it allows you to back up your disk collection to a computer

the hxc floppy emulator works with the fz1 so you can load the fz dumps direct as images and load them direct for the sdcard

+1 for Lotharek's hxc floppy emulator. Mine's in the mail now for my Ensoniq EPS sampler. My collection of 300 floppy disks will easily fit on a small SD card and I won't have to cringe whenever my floppy drive makes weird sounds or won't load a disk.

I've never really found floppies to be a problem. The Mirage is slightly less forgiving of dodgy floppies than the EPS, too, but sticking a nice new drive in helps.

not if the disks drive is mis aligned and when using a new floppy drive you get crc errors but when using the original its ok i have had this a few times on emax slimfloppy cf card drives upgrades

Thanks for the posts !

hxc floppy emulator seems to be a good solution.
What model based on SD-Cards would work with the Hohner HS-1/E ?

get the version that includes a proper 3.5" metal case

a 1gb to 2gb card is big enough

Do NOT get one that doesn't fit in a 3.5inch floppy bay unless youre up for a lot of case modding. I've been using these for a few years and they're great devices but were a huge PITA to fit in some machines until the redesign. You want a rev F not a rev C if you want it to be easy to fit, it's totally worth the extra euros

Hello. Do you mind if i ask where you got your service done ? I just brought one from germany and sadly it needs some maintainance. I cant even get the disk to format. I am based in London. Thanks - Alex

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
