custom cz?

2002-06-08 by drlict

bonsoir bonsoir, would it be possible to improve the midi
implementation of a cz101 (access to osc detune and ring would be
nice).Would a cartridge solve volatile memory problems? Is it normal
that my cz (if left more than 4 days off) fills itself with strange
values far beyond the usual 0~99 or 0~9, or do I own the only casio
whose lfo plays scales (never heard that mode before) and eg's sweet
tics and plucs? bonne nuit.

it should.

that's a hidden feature that the cz-101 shares with the tb-303.

also, you can save the "illegal" values onto a memory cart, and use them
later, or import them into other cz synths that ~do~ have baterry backup
(like the cz-1) ;)

I dunno about MIDI hacks - but as far as strange behavior goes I've
enjoyed these weird patches - a treasure trove of out-of-phase odd
wonders of the undocumented Casio underworld. I've found that you can
save them as SYSEX even though they contain "illegal values". IMHO it's
better than circuit bending - more like voltage bending -
non-destructive.

Anyone else experienced this? If not I'll try to upload a few SYSEX
files.

YES... finally someone else who has heard the wonders
of these strange values. When I first got my tired old
CZ-5000 It had strange values like detune of 5
octaves in the memory. Then I replaced the battery and
haven't been able to repeat it since. I would really
like to get some CZ sysex files with these strange
values. Can you guys help me out?

i don't think so - the cartridge provides only extra space.
it seems to me that the internal battery needs to be replaced,
as obviously the ram fills with random variables.

no again - the effect is due to the strange operation system of the cz.
the only way to reproduce these sounds is to dump the on a pc or
a cartridge. i once had an editor with a very loosely programmed
load function. when i dumped nonsense (=program files) to the cz,
i got similar effects. you can download the sounds i derived from
taht from our file section, /CZ-SOUNDS/CZ_EFF.ZIP, i think
in cz-droid format.

Thanks for replying everybody! What about separate outputs? Each dco
seems to have its own vca ...so?
