Vz1 aftertouch

Vz1 aftertouch

2018-07-01 by gazbat@...

Hi folks, I recently purchased a Vz1 and am finally tweaking some of the original patches. One of the things that I was hoping to take advantage of is the after touchdown to add a little vibrato style modulation. I can't seem to get it to do much until I turn the sensitivity up to about 80. I've tried the different items it can trigger and can definitely hear it effect the sound at this level. Is this normal?

me personally hate to be the bringer of
bad news
 but
with my experience would take a guess
its your aftertouch contact strip in the
vz-1....

over time they become less sensitive
 due to tarnish or corrosion..

have it replaced or clean it yourself

see if this makes any noticeable
difference ,,,,,

it works on a pressure sensitive
resistance ...
and I suspect this is why u need to
press so hard (above 80)to get it to be
effective ,,,

have you tried using a sequencer and
sending controller data to the vz-1 just
to see if responces quicker to after
touch control?

ive been known to be wrong
is a vz10 any good to do comparison
,that's all I have

Thanks Charles, I haven't connected it to my pc yet. The Casio is the only keyboard I have that sends aftertouch. I'll hook it up and see what appears in something like Midi-ox. The top A key is either on or off so I think you may be right with the key strip. There is someone local who advertises his services fixing keyboards - I might also drop him a line.

It is true that with the age the sensitivity of AT sensor can deteriorate.

But usually there’s a possibility to compensate it by setting in AT circuit. In the case of VZ1 try to set VR1 on MA1M board (according to Service manual, page 26).
