Hi, I am a new member of this list.I own a VZ1 for six years now. It is great to have a platform for this rare and unpopular synth. Until now,I use this machine a lot and I am still programming sounds on it.It is an amazing thing, how many different sounds it can offer. The flexible routing of the synthsection is great and I love this 8 step EGs.This device is very flexible in many things. The negative aspect is its programming and the manual.wich explains a lot in detail, but not the iPD synthesis in its depth. The VZ1 is more an academic synth. You need a calculator by your side. The FM synths were not so hard to programm. The VZ offers a lot of freedom in programming, but this freedom makes it hard to screw some good sounds from scratch. You have to fight for each sound. The VZ offers an ocean of sounds,it is on the programmer to find a method and way to get them. I use the VZ in my guitarsynth-rig as main Module or just as FX Box. Unfortunately Casio didn´t implemented the MONO Mode(wich the CZ101 had) but with the weak Multitimbralsection I have a kind of MONO Mode. To me,the VZ1 is nearly an optimal synth.A big laboratory in one box. The only synth, wich satisfies my love for research and development in sound. Unfortunately the VZ was not a successful synth. This machine had and has still a great potential. And it is solid build. The VZ was released at a time, when the FM hystery was fading down and the age of the samplebased synths started. An unlucky point to release another "academic" synth. What a machine !!! Marty
