Correct, you can't (the manual says this), and I agree with you, it
would be a great feature -- I tend do a lot of voice tweaking in combo
mode (though I guess I shouldn't given this problem), and if I end up
making a great patch there's no choice except remembering what I did and
hoping I can recreate it in normal mode.

[The manual tries to justify this misfeature, but the justification
given is pretty bogus; I expect the real reason is that like any
feature, it would take time to code and test, and DSI is not exactly
overstaffed...]
